Dear Trojan Shelter community,

Happy holidays! I hope you had a restful and safe Thanksgiving. Personally, this holiday is a favorite because alongside a great meal, it allows time to reflect on what I have to be grateful for -- a useful exercise amidst this challenging year. This Thanksgiving, we at Trojan Shelter are grateful that we aren’t alone in this fight against student homelessness: we couldn’t do it without every one of you.

Through November, Trojan Shelter has continued 24/7 operation with Covid-19 protocols in place. Our residents have been living in the space for three months now, so shelter operations are sailing smoothly. Our residents took a break from schoolwork by heading to the beach to play volleyball and soak up the sun one weekend. As Christmas and New Year's Day approach, we are helping the residents coordinate their holiday plans in a Covid-friendly way. We also wrapped up the semester with our volunteers by having committees present their projects from the semester and by playing a friendly game of Pictionary!  Particularly around the holidays, we are reminded of the importance of community, and fighting to make sure that each person experiencing homelessness has a warm place to sleep at night. Today, December 1st, is Giving Tuesday. Giving Tuesday is celebrated once every year as a generosity movement that hopes to inspire people to donate to organizations that help support their communities. Trojan Shelter is proud to serve students in the Los Angeles area and relies on donations to continue impacting students' lives. Donations directly help our residents by covering the cost of groceries, sanitation supplies, and more. If you are able to, please give to this important cause. Any amount is greatly appreciated.
